Phone line calculator
The ten national digits are summed, the nine overlapping pairs are classified, repeats and zeros are checked, and the closing digit is read for the kind of calls it draws.
A line that closes on 00 or carries 1881 in the middle gets fewer calls that convert. Founders blame the ads; the number was doing part of it.
A worked example, computed now
Rendered from the engine at request time, so it always matches the code.
- Closing digit 5: highest enquiry volume.
For driver 1 the last-four school prefers a whole total of 1 and a last-four total of 5 or 6.
Score = 0.35 total + 0.35 pairs + 0.15 structure + 0.15 last four. Professional exceptions apply by sector (45/54 for healthcare and legal, 68/86 for healthcare, 79 legal, 89 legal, healthcare, technology).
How this calculator works
- R-TOTAL Strip the country code; sum all ten digits to a compound and a digit; sum the last four separately.
- R-GATE The total must not be opposed to the owner's driver or conductor. Driver 8 avoids total 1, driver 6 avoids 3, driver 3 avoids 6.
- R-PAIRS Nine overlapping pairs. Favourable: 13 31 12 11 19 91 25 52 29 92 37 73 47 74 69 96 51 15 75 57. Contested: 21 38 83 59 95 36 63. The rest of the listed pairs are opposed; a pair with a zero has no reading.
- R-EXCEPTIONS 45 and 54 work for healthcare and legal; 68 and 86 for healthcare; 79 for legal; 89 for legal, healthcare and technology.
- R-STRUCTURE No digit more than twice; 444, 777, 888, 999 flagged; no zero in the last four, at position 5 or 10, never more than two, never closing 00; the number should not end on its starting digit.
- R-SCORE 0.35 total + 0.35 pairs + 0.15 structure + 0.15 last-four alignment.
Not what this tells you. A phone reading describes the calls a line tends to draw, in the practitioners' experience. It is not a claim about network quality or advertising.
The reason
Practitioners with three or more independent sources agree on the digit-sum total, the avoidance of trailing zeros, the limit on repeated digits and the pair readings. The total is gated against the owner's driver and conductor; preferred totals are 1, 3, 5 and 6 with 5 as the default.
Where the schools disagree
- The whole-number school reads the ten-digit total; the last-four school weights the closing four digits. Both are shown.
- One practitioner reads a closing 1 or 8 as best for business; the wider consensus avoids 8 totals for most owners. The consensus is applied.

Questions founders ask
Do I include +91?
No. The country code and any leading zero are stripped; the ten national digits are read.
What does the closing digit mean?
5 draws the highest enquiry volume, 8 fewer calls from disciplined payers, 6 pleasant callers who negotiate hard, 1 filtered genuine prospects, 2 and 3 long emotional calls, 9 arguments, 7 evaporating assurances, 4 unfiltered, 0 nothing.
How many favourable pairs are enough?
Seven of nine is the practitioners' threshold for a strong line.
Should I change my number?
If the owner gate fails or fewer than five pairs are favourable, a second line for enquiries is the usual first step; the effect is said to show within three to six months.
